Physical Trauma Following Rocket Warning Sirens in Israel

Introduction: Civilians constitute a significant wartime target, and trauma accounts for most of their injuries. Air raid sirens have long been used to alert civilians incoming attacks since expanded warn natural disasters. Sirens are known cause emotional distress physiological changes. Injuries inflicted from during run shelter yet be described in the medical literature. Method: During recent Israel-Gaza conflict May 2021, Israel's population experienced rocket warning sirens. We collected all adult patients arriving at major tertiary center emergency department (ED), attesting having suffered injury while running shelter. Clinical demographic data were retrieved analyzed. Results: A total 48 identified, with mean age 59.6±20.0. Ten (21%) admitted, length stay was 4.4±3.7 days. Women had higher probability being hospitalized (42.9% vs. 5.9%, p=0.04), those tended older (68.8±16.4 54.8±20.8, p=0.06). Extremity injuries common (50%), before head (29%), torso (25%). Most (38/48, 79.2%) discharged ED, rest observation or surgery. One patient died injury. Conclusion: This study implies that physical Israeli 2021 conflict. Warning siren should given appropriate attention prevention by directed media campaigns post-conflict reimbursement.
